Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain (Hindi: हम आपके दिल में रहे, Urdu: ہم آپکے دل میں رکتے ہیں) is a 1994 Indian Hindi-language romantic comedy film directed by Sooraj R. Barjatya for Rajshri Productions. The film was jointly produced by R. B. Choudhary and Barjatya and stars Anil Kapoor, Genelia D'Souza and Madhuri Dixit in the lead roles. The film tells the story of Sain (Anil Kapoor), a rich man who falls in love with Meera (also played by Anil Kapoor) at first sight, despite her being fat and having six siblings. The couple's love story unfolds as Sain goes abroad to study, while Meera stays back with her family as a maid to save money for her wedding day. "Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain" was released on 25 August 1994. Upon release, the film received positive critical reception and turned out to be one of the biggest commercial successes in Hindi cinema. It became the first Hindi film to collect net gross in India and also emerged as the highest-grossing Bollywood film of 1994, grossing at box office. The movie became an all-time blockbuster hit in India and a blockbuster hit overseas. After a run of a year, a new record was created in Box Office India for its 100th week of running continuously at various centres across the country. After coming back from Cambridge, Sain (Anil Kapoor) finds a girl asleep in his bed. The girl awakens and she claims to be his girlfriend. He does not believe her and refuses to accept it and leave the room. After leaving the room, Sain's friend tells him that the girl was actually Meera (Madhuri Dixit), his childhood sweetheart whom he has been trying to forget for years. Sain takes Meera out on a date and then informs about her family history. He narrates that Meera is daughter of a prominent businessman in Mumbai, but her mother runs a hostel instead of being rich as people thought due to poverty issues. Meera's father (Kulbhushan Kharbanda) is a well-read, knowledgeable and understanding man. Meera's mother (Dina Pathak) was deathly ill when she gave birth to Meera, and has been in coma since then. Despite having six children including three sons, she chooses to support Meera when her father disagrees. Sain then begins to tell that when he returned from the US ten years ago, when he saw her for the first time it brought back memories of their childhood romance. He feels sorry for breaking up with her in primary school due to his mother's pressure for him to be more modernized. cfa1e77820
